Lauren Tilton and Taylor Arnold will introduce the concept of distant viewing, a theory and method for the analysis of digital images. After a focus on the methodological interventions, they will then turn to the Distant Viewing Toolkit and how it can support the analysis of audiovisual data.

Dr. Lauren Tilton is an Associate Professor of Digital Humanities, who specializes in the analysis of visual culture. Their most recent book Layered Lives (at LayerLives.org) was just released with Stanford University Press and their book Distant Viewing is forthcoming from MIT Press. Dr. Taylor Arnold is an Associate Professor of Statistics, who specializes in the analysis of large multimodal, unstructured data sets.
